PostSubject: 2010 Conventions   Mon Feb 22, 2010 6:11 pm

I haven't seen a thread about cons anywhere, but please forgive me if there is one already!

Is anyone going to any cons this year? I'll be at Amecon, and Tokonatsu (if I can manage to get a place - I've been checking the site daily and they still haven't opened registrations, arg). Amecon should be convenient for us this year, as it's at Keele university, which is really easy to do by public transport. Tokonatsu is a bit less handy and down near Milton Keynes, but it's stupidly cheap and frankly one of the best cons I've ever been to, and I've been to about twenty various cons over the years.

At the time of writing, there are only 8.8% of the spaces for Amecon left! I should possibly have pimped it out sooner.

Yeah, Amecon is a bit dear, but should be plenty of fun, it's like a full weekend thing, unlike the Leeds thing we went to. Toko Too, but it's outside, and involved camping. Both of these seem to be plenty of fun for anyone who wants to come along.

Are there any conventions that don't, like, cost money?

None worth attending... well, thinking about it, it'd mostly be London anyway, and that wouldn't be cheap to get to in the first place..
Toko has been approximately £30-£40 for the weekend including food for the last two years, If anything, that's worth it ^_^

It's up to you anyway, Con's are so much better then expo's, and usually aren't that much more expensive.

Yeah Toko is cheapest, and it's awesomeee. though I'd hate to be there on a rainy one D:
It was boiling when I went. which made water gun battle royale so much better.

The Expos aren't like a real con at all. I guess they're alright if all you want to do is buy things and look at cosplay, but the proper cons tend to have activities to get involved in and panels discussing or introducing you to various cultural and geeky topics. I don't enjoy the buying / cosplay anywhere near as much as I enjoy the panels and activities, so I guess it really depends on what you're after.

Ah, KS, who are you? Which year did you go to Toko? It was boiling the first time I went two years back, too. I took an ancient grey parasol with me to keep the sun off, and spent a lot of time in soaked clothes trying to cool down.
