| Well. Fuck. After reading the Digital Economy Bill. It seems we wont be able to get anime full stop http://www.mcvuk.com/news/38382/Digital-Economy-Bill-is-passed?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+mcvuk%2FoXMK+%28MCV%3A+games+industry+news%29 | |

| My... life... destroyed, in the blink of an eye. Im somewhat reminded of that movie, equilibrium, where the government has somehow managed to censor everything one man deems unfit, more so V for vendetta, given its british setting. In fact, I thought we were somewhat lucky on that front when I saw what was happening in other countries regarding films (ie Australia) and video games (ie Australia) but this is really over the top.
Whats more disturbing is how its just, sort of, slipped under the proverbial radar (no media coverage, whatsoever). Anime is one of those areas of general obscurity, and frankly, I doubt the law will be contested. Im disgusted at how these laws are snowballing. Sounds good on paper, elections coming up, it'll get you votes, why not. I hate how this government works. Human rights law's are likely being broken just putting this legislation through, well at least its impossible to enforce. You know why I refuse to vote. (Actually, Lib dem seems reasonable, they unanimously disapprove of the digital economy act)
Also, I like visual novels. Im dead. <- Also, yaoi fangirls. Your deaded too, most likely, though actually, only the depiction of females is mentioned, so probably not.
Ever seen otome wa boku ni koishiteru, strawberry eggs, baka to test or needless? Thats sexualisation of a fictional female character of indeterminable age right there, you could be jailed for even having seen that apparantly. How about the end of evangelion? Yeah, your fucking screwed.
Fact is, you could be jailed for 3 years because someone deems elfen lied inappropriate, no evidence of harm required.
I feel like watching V for vendetta tonight. Im hoping this is just a whole load of bullshit, and if it is, your a dead man Sombre. (just kidding)

| This doesn't spell the end of all that is Anime, just the sketchy stuff, and yes, this is utterly riddiculous, in that you can get a pencil, and some paper, and get yourself put in jail for three years after a ten second loli sketch.
What the hell is wrong with the govement lately? The digital economy bill seems to be systematically designed to be counter productive, and this 'dangerous cartoons' act is just absurd. I'm not a lolicon myself (really!) but as mentioned, this fucks with Elfen Lied and Evangelion, and a few other masterpiece parts, that while survive with bits censored, shouldn't have to. Once again, I'm left annoyed that the Lib-Dems aren't in power, they wouldn't stand for this shit, they're the only group based more on being a decent goverment rather then being obsessed with being in power, and money (and obviously, keeping all the american companies happy *facepalm*)
I'd like to see them enforce it though, I'm pretty sure some of my Negima manga counts, actually, a sizeable segment of Travelling man and Forbidden Planet's Manga would be illegal, will they put these buisnesses out of buisness confenscating it? Or wait and arrest anyone who buys it?
I thought none-harmful illustrations were the only option for pedophiles? Well, the only one they can use to satisfy cravings that otherwise could harm children in oppotunistic 'have no other vent' situations... Or at least, that's what my optimism tells me :/
Oh and as for the digital 'economy' bill, it'll be irritating to have to buy so many more dvd's, but we'll just vie for more budget or very carefully stick to unlicensed materal. Also, we already have a large library, we could repeat some of it...
BAKA WILL RESIST BIG BROTHER! Hopefully without getting us all arrested in the process...

| FUCK, i Finally get descent broadband (so i can torrent), and then they fucking make it illegal, the BASTARDS. Now they've passed this, whats to stop the passing more laws against "freedom of speech" like in some other countries P.s. i looks like we'll have to start having to use Ultrasurf to stop their logging and blocking of web surfing | |

| Points at you tube* im sorry but if seikon no boobzar is not getting banned on you tube just proves this bill is bull since you have the gothic loli being the dominatrix here *shudders* and also they are pointing at Lolicon but not at Shota? i mean whats that saying "yes we don't want any fictional non-existent underage girl getting raped but if a little boy is getting raped by an older girl meh he can handle himself" i mean thats just wrong if there gunna target one then at least have the decency to target it in its entirety or maybe that would make it sound silly | |

| My worries are not so much about anime as it is visual novels. Banning anime just sounds ridiculous considering how it usually ends up licensed and rated. So im pretty certain its safe.
However, if anime is an area of general obscurity, what of visual novels? I bet 3/4 of you guys have absolutely no idea what im talking about, and I bet 3/4 of who do, attribute them to so called "h-games" (a term you wouldnt catch me dead using) frankly, you are misinformed.
Unfortunately, very few visual novels actually get an official english translation, and the majority of those that do are highly sex orientated, ie bible black/discipline. These are the type mostly heard of (Even so, id strongly contest the banning of these). Most visual novels do have sex scenes of varying explicicity, even kanon does, however they are usually plot driven and can be compared to an obligatory sex scene in mainstream movies. My fear is that the medium will be banned and is considered potentially incriminating.
Censorship should never be considered to be a good thing... ever. Also, what really gets me is that no evidence of harm is required, you could be jailed for just posessing this stuff, and that the definitions for these laws are so broad and wide cast.

This Also, I'd like to affirm my knowledge of the visual novel genre, we're not all ignorent here, and anyone here who doesn't know, would probably be better catorgarised as newb, rather then noob.

| So, no more anime conventions? No underage videogame protagonists? No more fan service? No more mangas? No more DA?
*ROFLMAO*
The authorities are going to have fun blocking all that in the UK! No, I welcome the challenge! This is just another one's self-righteous attempt to mould us into his/her own image. Trying to play God more specifically.
Personally, I say don't lose any sleep over it. They might as well ban casual sex soon enough.
If they are going to enforce this, I think I'm going to move to Japan, or at least to Hong Kong.

| Anyone who is worried about being traced when *cough* Torrenting *cough* should use Peerblock, it stops you computer connecting to any malicious servers (that log your pc's activities/address) you will be suprised at the amount of Anti P2P servers you are actualy connecting to www.peerblock.com | |

| this is a branch off from peerguardian, but refined to have Allot less bugs, and work correctly with Windows7 64x (Ive been using for the last 6 months, but it was a pain to get the driver to load on 64bit, until this update) when i first started using this program i was shocked at how many ip's i was connecting to were blocked when downloading a game or film. Most of the servers that are blocked are bad, as they log your activities online, or try to send you adverts/viruses. But blocking almost 800 million ip's is alot of PC's | |

| Anime isn't banned - just loli and shota.
In my opinion, even though it's drawing, it's still wrong. Underage sex in any way is wrong, and it shouldn't be any different just because it's a drawing. I'm glad it's become banned, because it is pretty disgusting - why would you wanna watch underage girls/boys in any forms?

| As long as they don't start banning the anime with "excessive violence". I really don't care is they just ban shota/loli, but normally when they start baning things, they don't know when to stop. | |
